Synopsis

Working is an ensemble-based musical that follows various characters with differing dreams, jobs, and concerns. Based on Studs Terkel’s best-selling book of interviews with American workers, this musical creates a clear picture of the people in the world that are taken for granted. The list of characters include: a car parker, a school teacher, a newsgirl, a mill worker, a waitress, and many more!

This 1978 classic has been updated for a modern age, featuring songs by Stephen Schwartz, Craig Carnelia, James Taylor, and more.

Harriton Theater Company’s version of Working is a musical exploration of many people from all different jobs. The goal of this song cycle is to show how people’s relationships to their work ultimately reveal key aspects of their humanity, regardless of the trappings of the jobs themselves.
